Dr. Chitra Subrahmanian is a psychotherapist and educator working in Geneva. Born in India, she completed higher education in the United States, receiving a Masters in Counselor Education with a specialization in Community Counseling from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh, and a Doctorate in Child Development and Family Studies with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from Purdue University, Indiana.
Dr. Subrahmanian is currently Professor of Psychology and Counseling at Webster University, Geneva. She is also recipient of a research grant from Webster and is engaged in the study of rituals and routines in expatriate families.
In her private practice, she specializes in therapy from a systems perspective for Individuals, Couples, and Families. She takes a holistic view of cultural, social, interpersonal and personal factors as they relate to individual and relational distress and imbalance. Her goals are to work collaboratively with clients, to create a safe and supportive environment within which to assess and manage difficulties and, above all, to find effective solutions. Chitra has extensive experience working with clients of many different cultures and nationalities, with a wide range of presenting problems. While she works primarily in English, she has a working knowledge of French and German and is fluent in Hindi and Tamil as well.
Through her involvement with N.E.S.T, she hopes to reach out to the English-speaking community in the Geneva region: to network with other practitioners and help those seeking support and guidance to find the services they require.
